Museveni Slams Babu Owino for Backing His Rivals

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Tuesday called out Embakasi East MP Babu Owino over his support for his political opponents.

Museveni, who was making his remarks, said that some individuals in Railaโ€™s camp did not know what they were doing.

The remarks followed some silence before he went on to elaborate, saying that in the intelligent reports he receives, Babu’s name always appears.

He said his appearance on the reports was over his support for anti-NRM movements.

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) is Ugandaโ€™s ruling party, led by Museveni himself.

โ€œThere are some individuals in Raila’s group who I donโ€™t think know what they are doing. I am a consumer of intelligence services. I always see intelligence service reports. There’s a character called Babu. I always see Babu dealing with anti-NRM groups in Uganda,โ€ the Ugandan president said.

He went on to say that despite knowing this, he has never accused Babu of it, until today.

โ€œI have never accused him, but now I am accusing him.โ€

Babu Owino has been a vocal supporter of Ugandan opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine.

Babu has publicly declared his support for his movement and ideologies.

Museveni spoke during the launch of Raila Odingaโ€™s African Union Commission chairmanship candidature at State House, Nairobi.

He affirmed his endorsement for the former Kenyan Prime Minister, insisting that he better understands the challenges of the continent.

โ€œI know Raila from the Nationalists and Pan Africanists,โ€ Museveni said.
