Gang Leader Barbecue Changes Tune, Sends Fresh Message to Govt & Kenyans

Haiti’s notorious gang leader, Jimmy Cherizier, also known as Barbecue, has urged the Kenyan government to reconsider deploying its troops to the conflict-ridden Caribbean nation.

During an interview conducted in French and published on Friday, August 23, Barbecue expressed that the Kenyan officers were like his brothers and he wished to avoid any clashes that could lead to casualties on either side.

Barbecue also blamed Western nations and Haitian elites for fueling the violence plaguing the country.

He alleged that the weapons being used by rival gangs in the ongoing bloodshed were purchased with funds supplied by politicians and certain oligarchs who were financing these groups to incite political instability in Haiti.

In his 40-minute interview, Barbecue accused the United States, France, and Canada of using Caricom to enforce a government in Haiti solely for their benefit.

He claimed the Multinational Security Mission, which includes Kenya, would fail just like previous attempts, insisting that dialogue was the only path to resolving the crisis.

“When you see a Haitian, you are looking at an African. Until I speak, you wouldn’t know if I’m Haitian or African,” the gang leader asserted.

“And today, if I have to align with the devil to liberate this country from this system, I’m ready to do it,” Barbecue declared.

Barbecue’s remarks come just two months after he publicly threatened to shoot down Kenyan police. In a widely circulated video, he rallied his supporters against the Kenyan forces.

He labeled the Kenyan officers as invaders, stressing that he was prepared to sacrifice his life for the freedom of Haiti.

“I don’t care if they are white or black. If they are not Haitian and are on Haitian soil, they are invaders,” Barbecue emphasized.

“It’s a bloodbath; it’s a fight for the nation, and I’ll fight for it even if I die. I am confident there will be successors and others who will carry on this struggle,” he added.
