The Univerity of Nairobi (UoN) students on Saturday staged demonstrations demanding the release of their leader Madzao Rocha who was reportedly abducted by unknown people.

While demonstrating, the furious learners barricaded Waiyaki Way with rocks causing massive traffic disruption along the ever-busy road.

The students then went ahead to light bonfires as they marched through the city streets while hoisting huge placards and twigs.

During the demonstrations, the students accused President William Rutoโ€™s administration of unwarrantedly instigating the abduction of Mazdao whose whereabouts are yet to be established.

In the videos obtained by Gossipa2z.com, the students were heard making anti-government chants as they demanded immediate intervention from the police.

“Free Rocha!” the students shouted with some of them depicted pelting stones at pedestrians and motorists who attempted to use the road.

In the protests, the students also demanded the government address the controversial university funding model.

The demonstrations come a day after the university students led by the Nairobi Students Association (UNSA) announced plans to demonstrate over their leader’s abduction.

According to UNSA, despite attempts to report the matter to the Central Police Station, the police were yet to intervene forcing them to resort to the streets.

“We, therefore, call all the students of The University of Nairobi to assemble at Main Campus- UNSA Offices by 1.00 pm. We shall gather here, from where we shall pray and dispatch search parties to retrieve our President,” read part of the statement by UNSA.

The students further urged other students across the country to support their move in calling for the release of their student leader.

“An injury to one Comrade is an injury to all Comrades, and no one shall know peace till the President is back with us,” the students claimed.
