Junet Mohamed Seeks Forgiveness from President Ruto
On Saturday, Junet Mohamed, the Member of Parliament for Suna East, requested forgiveness from President William Ruto for his earlier controversial comments made during the campaign period.
Junet conveyed his regret for his pre-election remarks during a homecoming event for Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya, which was attended by Ruto in Butere, Kakamega County.
The MP, who is a close associate of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga, explained that his comments were made in defense of his party leader, who was Ruto’s political rival at that time.
“Mr. President, much like my colleague, I seek your forgiveness for the statements I made during the campaign, just as you had made several remarks about Raila,” Junet said.
“You mentioned that he wasn’t the right candidate, so let’s forgive each other and move forward,” he added.

Junet also praised President Ruto for appointing four of his party members to high-profile ministerial roles. He believed that Ruto’s decision to include cabinet secretaries from the opposition party was a positive move to represent Kenya’s diverse population.
“Mr. President, we appreciate that you included some of our most capable members in your government. People like Oparanya, Joho, Mbadi, and Wandayi now have jobs—who doesn’t want employment?” Junet remarked.
The MP also refuted claims that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is conspiring with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to merge their political parties ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to Junet, ODM’s recent engagement with UDA was solely intended to promote unity among Kenyans.
“Some of our members have chosen to join Ruto’s administration, and we must allow them to work. The rest of us in the opposition will continue our oversight role. The rumors of an ODM-UDA merger are unfounded,” he clarified.
“This situation resembles a ‘come we stay’ arrangement; some people have met with the president and secured jobs, while we will maintain our course.”
