Giant Python Bites Man’s Private Parts While Sitting on the Toilet

In a terrifying and bizarre event that has captured global attention, a resident of Nonthaburi province in Thailand narrowly avoided serious harm after encountering a 12-foot python lurking in his toilet.

The incident, which left the bathroom soaked in blood, unfolded in the early hours of Tuesday, August 20, 2024, sparking widespread fear in a country where such encounters, though rare, are not unheard of.

The victim, Thanat Thangtewanon, shared his harrowing experience from his hospital bed, where he received treatment for his injuries.

“I felt something biting me,” Thanat told local media.

“It was so painful that I instinctively reached into the toilet to find out what was wrong. I couldn’t believe it when I realized I was holding a snake,” he recounted.

Thanat’s shock quickly turned to desperation as the python sank its fangs into his private parts. Grabbing the nearest object, a toilet brush, he struck the snake repeatedly until it let go.

The snake, which had slithered through the plumbing and into the toilet, was eventually subdued after being hit multiple times.

Blood was splattered across the bathroom as Thanat fought to free himself, turning a routine bathroom visit into a nightmare.

Once the python was subdued, Thanat rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors confirmed that despite the gruesome bite, it wasn’t deep enough to cause severe injury. He received a tetanus shot and will recover without needing stitches.

Grateful the snake wasn’t venomous, Thanat expressed relief that it wasn’t a cobra, noting that a cobra attack could have been fatal.

Although the physical injuries are healing, the psychological impact on Thanat has been profound.

“I haven’t dared use that toilet since. I always check it and use a brush to ensure nothing is inside,” he confessed.

Python sightings in Thailand, particularly in urban areas where development has encroached on their habitats, are not uncommon.

Reticulated pythons, the species involved in this attack, are among the world’s longest snakes, capable of growing up to 30 feet in length. They typically inhabit forests, swamps, and even urban environments where they occasionally invade homes searching for food.

Similar incidents have occurred in Thailand over the years. In 2016, a man in Chachoengsao province survived a 10-foot python attack while using a squat toilet. In 2020, a housewife in Samut Prakan was bitten by a python while seated on her toilet, drawing widespread attention.

Authorities have advised residents to remain vigilant in snake-prone areas and regularly inspect toilets and plumbing systems, especially during the rainy season when snakes are more likely to seek shelter indoors.

For Thanat, using the bathroom will never be the same again. Though the python has been removed, the trauma of the experience will linger long after his physical wounds have healed.
