Moses Kuria Declares Presidential Bid, Vows to Dethrone Gachagua as Mt Kenya Kingpin
Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has officially declared his presidential ambitions, marking a determined return to the political spotlight just months after his controversial exit from the Cabinet.
Kuria’s announcement introduces fresh intrigue into the political scene, particularly as it follows a public exchange with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, hinting at a possible mending of their once-hostile relationship.
Widely recognized for his provocative rhetoric and resolute positions, Kuria took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to express his intentions.
In response to Gachagua’s call for patience and faith in divine timing, Kuria asserted his belief in his destiny to become the Mt Kenya kingpin and ultimately Kenya’s sixth president.
“I firmly believe that God will make me the current Mt Kenya kingpin and the 6th President of the Republic of Kenya,” Kuria declared, underscoring his steadfast confidence.
This unexpected declaration follows a turbulent period marked by Kuria’s sharp criticism of Gachagua.
The two have clashed over several issues, notably Gachagua’s ‘one-man-one-shilling-one-vote’ campaign and his public criticism of National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director General Noordin Haji.
Kuria has been outspoken against Gachagua’s leadership approach, accusing him of deceit and manipulation, especially regarding the controversial Finance Bill 2024.
Tensions peaked during the violent anti-finance bill protests that shook the nation in June.
As public outrage grew over the bill’s proposed VAT hikes on essential items like milk and bread, leading to deadly confrontations, Kuria openly held Gachagua responsible for pushing the original version of the bill, labeling him a “dishonest and dishonorable man” online.

“Haji must be held accountable for the deaths and the security breach at Parliament. He should step down,” Gachagua asserted, escalating the already volatile political environment.

Speculation suggests that Gachagua is facing resistance within the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) over his perceived ambitions to succeed President Ruto.
