Hamilton Orata Takes Helm as Acting ODM Chair in Homa Bay
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has designated Hamilton Orata as the new chairperson for the county.
This decision comes on the heels of Gladys Wanga’s recent appointment as the national chairperson of the Orange Party.
Orata previously served as Wanga’s deputy in his role as chairperson for Homa Bay County.
“On August 9, 2024, the Central Committee implemented changes within the National Executive Committee, appointing H.E Gladys Wanga as the National Chairperson of the ODM party. Until now, Governor Wanga was leading the Homa Bay County Coordinating Committee,” stated the party’s Executive Director, Oduor Ong’wen, in a letter.
“Under Articles 15 and 50 of the ODM Party Constitution, Governor Wanga vacates the position of County Chairperson, and Vice-chairperson H.E Hamilton Orata takes over in an acting capacity until elections are held,” the party’s Executive Director Oduor Ong’wen said in a letter.

This announcement follows the circulation of a fraudulent letter online, which incorrectly claimed that Homa Bay Woman Representative Joyce Osogo, also known as Bensouda, had been named the acting chairperson in Wanga’s absence.
Governor Wangaโs transition to national chairperson follows John Mbadi’s move to President William Ruto’s cabinet as Treasury CS.
Additionally, the party has appointed Governors Simba Arati (Kisii), Abdulswamad Nassir (Mombasa), and Senator Godfrey Osotsi (Vihiga) as deputy party leaders.
These changes come after the appointments of former Governors Hassan Joho (Mombasa) and Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega) to the Cabinet, where they previously served as deputy party leaders.
Opiyo Wandayi, who was the National Assembly Minority leader, has also joined the Cabinet.
