Drama: MCSK Leaders Locked in Room & Beaten Up Send Appeal to Ruto

Drama unfolded at the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) offices in Nairobi on Sunday after new board members, who had come in to take leadership roles, were blocked from accessing the offices.

The new members claimed that they were earlier elected as the new leaders at an extraordinary general meeting and insisted that they possess documents showing their appointments.

Upon their arrival, the new members were rounded up, locked in one room then clobbered by goons who had been hired by unknown people before being thrown out.

Expressing their anger and frustrations outside MCSK offices, the new members questioned the intention of the management by intimidating them.

They cited a Ksh 56 million graft and poor governance among key reasons for being denied access.

The members have now called on President William Ruto to intervene alleging the misappropriation of Ksh56 million set aside for artists.

โ€œThey came in with another goon, they pushed me to the ground and tore my pair of trousers,โ€ lamented one of the leaders

โ€œWe are asking the DCI to step in and investigate the issue, there is a graft of Ksh56 million at MCSK,โ€ asserted another urging music users to continue paying license fees for the benefit of artists.

The new members also lamented that police officers, who came to quell the situation, did nothing to help them despite producing documents showing their appointment to the board.

โ€œDid they come to fight for our rights or to intimidate us yet we have legal documents from the government showing we are approved to be in office,โ€ another questioned.

Until now, the management of MCSK has not responded to the allegations leveled by the supposedly new board.

It waits to be seen how MCSK will respond to the allegations of graft and denial of access by the new board.
