Azimio leader Raila Odinga remains steadfast in his pursuit of the African Union Commission chairmanship.

Odinga engaged in a consultative dialogue with President Denis Sassou N’Guesso of the Republic of the Congo on Saturday to further bolster his candidacy.

In a post shared on his X platform, Odinga highlighted that their conversation revolved around critical topics like security, development, and climate change across Africa.

“Appreciative of the productive meeting with President Denis Sassou N’Guesso of the Republic of the Congo as I progress in my AUC campaign. We delved into security, development, and climate change, which are crucial for a thriving and sustainable continent. His support fortifies our mission,” he noted.

Kenya’s quest for the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairmanship continues to gain momentum, with several Presidents backing Odinga’s bid for the influential position.

Recently, Odinga also held discussions with Democratic Republic of Congo President Felix Tshisekedi, who expressed his endorsement of the AUC campaign.

“I had a valuable discussion with DRC President Felix Tshisekedi regarding my AUC candidacy. Our conversation was anchored on key issues like security, development, and climate change, which are pivotal in driving long-term growth and ensuring a shared future. I appreciate his endorsement,” he remarked.

Odinga is competing against two other contenders: Djibouti’s Foreign Affairs Minister Mahmoud Youssouf and Somalia’s former Deputy Prime Minister, now a member of the Federal Parliament, Fawzia Yusuf, aiming to succeed the current chair, Moussa Faki, in the February 2025 elections.

The Kenyan government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has set up a specialized secretariat dedicated to spearheading Odinga’s campaign.
