Angry Mob Kills Officer After Brutal Attack on His Family
Residents of Ng’ombeni in Kwale County took action into their own hands after a police officer allegedly attempted to assault a family with bows and arrows.
The officer stationed at Ng’ombeni Patrol Base was fatally attacked by the outraged community.
The incident, which took place on Thursday around 11:00 am, shocked the community and highlighted serious concerns about mental health issues among police officers.
Police Constable Titus Gaya, who had recently shown signs of mental health issues, left his post unnoticed and went to the home of Mwanaisha Ali in Ziwani.
According to a police report accessed by Gossipa2z.com, Gaya forcibly entered Ali’s home and began threatening her family with a bow and arrows.
The unexpected intrusion created widespread fear and panic among Ali’s relatives.
Mwanaisha Ali quickly notified nearby residents, who rushed to the scene and managed to subdue Gaya.
Tragically, the situation deteriorated quickly. The officer was severely beaten by the mob and died from his injuries before other officers arrived.
When additional police personnel from Kwale arrived, they found Gaya’s body on the ground.
Preliminary investigations indicated that Gaya had been experiencing mental health issues, a troubling trend affecting police officers across Kenya.

Recent data from the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) reveals that around 12,000 officers are dealing with mental health challenges, largely due to the high-stress nature of their jobs.
In response to this growing issue, the NPSC has introduced counseling sessions to provide support to officers. As of June 2023, nearly 26,000 officers have participated in these counseling programs.
The rise in mob justice cases is a growing concern in Kenya.
Earlier this year, Inspector Simon Mwangi Kariuki was killed by a mob in March.
The attackers also stole his Ceska pistol, escalating the issue of public violence against law enforcement.
In another troubling event from June, a video surfaced showing a driver attacking a traffic police officer during a road rage incident on Kamiti Road, Nairobi.
The driver, Njoroge, was later captured after a widespread manhunt.
The situation is further complicated by incidents from the previous year. Two officers, Emmanuel Kiprop and James Mureithi, were killed by a mob in Kanthanje market, Tharaka-Nithi County.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the officers were off duty and at the market for personal reasons, raising questions about their presence and the circumstances of their deaths.
