Father of Spanish Football Star Lamine Yamal Stabbed in Mataró Car Park Attack

The father of 17-year-old Spanish football prodigy Lamine Yamal has reportedly been stabbed multiple times in a parking area.

Reports from Spanish media state that Mounir Nasraoui was assaulted on Wednesday night in the coastal town of Mataró, located north of Barcelona, by a group of individuals he had encountered earlier that day.

Catalan police have confirmed the arrest of at least three suspects, according to AFP news agency.

Mr. Nasraoui was urgently taken to a Barcelona hospital in critical condition but is now reported to be stable.

The attack allegedly occurred near the Rocafonda neighborhood, where Yamal spent his early years.

It’s been reported by Spanish newspaper El Pais that Mr. Nasraoui argued earlier that day with the group while walking his dog.

Later that same day, the group confronted him in a parking area and reportedly stabbed him “multiple times.”

The motive behind the stabbing remains unclear at this time.

According to a report from the sports website Relevo, Mr. Nasraoui is expected to stay in the hospital for two to three days under observation.

Lamine Yamal, Spain’s youngest-ever national team player, made headlines during Euro 2024, where he was named the Young Player of the Tournament.

The winger played a key role in Spain’s victory over England, assisting Nico Williams’s opening goal in the 2-1 final win in Berlin.

Following Spain’s triumph, fans took to the streets of Mataró to celebrate their hometown hero.

Having grown up in Mataró, Yamal later honed his skills during his teenage years at Barcelona’s renowned La Masia academy.
