Vetting Panel Clears Dorcas Oduor, Askul for Cabinet
The National Assembly Committee on Appointments has given the green light to Dorcas Oduor and Beatrice Askul, nominating them for the positions of Attorney General and Cabinet Secretary for East African Community Affairs and Regional Development, respectively.
The committee’s findings were presented to the National Assembly by Minority Leader Junet Mohamed.
Junet announced, “This house approves the appointment of Beatrice Askul Moe as Cabinet Secretary for East African Community Affairs and Regional Development and Dorcas Oduor as Attorney General of the Republic of Kenya.”
This approval followed their vetting on Friday, August 9, 2024.
The nominees now await final approval from the National Assembly plenary before their names are sent to President William Ruto for formal appointment and gazetting.
They are the final batch of Cabinet Secretary nominees put forward by President Ruto.
Askul previously served as Turkana County’s Executive Committee member for Water and Sanitation.
A member of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) led by Raila Odinga, Askul was also part of the ODM’s National Elections Coordinating Committee, which was responsible for overseeing party elections and combating the practice of selling party tickets.

Moe is a social scientist and consultant with expertise in community development and management, focusing on fostering behavioral and social changes.
Oduor, the Attorney General nominee, previously served as the Secretary of Public Prosecutions.
Upon appointment, she will make history as Kenya’s first female Attorney General.
Her notable cases include the 1998 Nairobi bombing, which killed 200 people, and the Chris Okemo extradition case.
Oduor also played a role in the Police task force that established the Independent Police Oversight Authority.
Once confirmed, both will join President Ruto’s newly restructured Cabinet.
Ruto dissolved his entire Cabinet on July 11, 2024, following a series of anti-government protests by Kenyan citizens.
