Moses Kuria Reveals Secrets of Convincing ODM Leaders to Join Government: “It Was My Idea”
Former Public Service Cabinet secretary Moses Kuria has revealed the intrigues behind President William Ruto’s recently formed broad-based Cabinet.
What was Moses Kuria’s role in broad-based government?
Speaking on Citizen TV on Monday, August 12, Kuria claimed he was the architect of the unity deal between Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Kuria stated that he fronted the idea of appointing opposition leaders to the Cabinet long before the Gen Z protests.
“For the avoidance of doubt, this issue of inviting the opposition to the government, I can largely claim it to be my idea, way before Gen Z. I could see some trouble ahead; I was discussing with the president we need to reform our politics,” Kuria said.
The former CS narrated how he used Raila’s elder brother, Oburu Oginga, to convince the former prime minister to accept the deal.
Did Moses Kuria meet with Raila Odinga in Dubai?
Kuria disclosed that he traveled to Dubai to persuade the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya leader to work with Ruto.
“I remember I had lunch with Oburu Oginga to convince him why they should take the position. I remember that time Raila Odinga was in Dubai.
“I had my ticket in my hand to convince him why this was a good idea. Oburu Oginga was the one who was; we were working with him on this issue,” he added.

He explained that he held similar talks with Opiyo Wandayi, Junet Mohamed, and John Mbadi before ODM leaders were appointed to the Cabinet.
Despite being sacked, Kuria said he was happy the president listened to his idea about forming a broad-based government.
“So, whether I’m in the cabinet or not, I remain very proud of the president for making this decision because this is what we need,” he added.
Has William Ruto formed a coalition government with ODM?
Meanwhile, the president dismissed claims of forming a coalition government with ODM, clarifying that their cooperation is solely for the benefit of Kenyans.
Ruto assured Kenyans that the collaboration with ODM is not about joining forces politically but working together on national issues.
Ruto emphasized the importance of prioritizing the country’s needs over individual or party interests, praising leaders who have set aside political differences.
He explained that his mission is to unite the country beyond tribal lines, focusing on collective efforts to drive national progress and development.
