Overwhelmed by the financial strain of his son’s prolonged illness, Okanga finally found relief when Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki stepped in to pay off his son’s substantial hospital bill.
Three-Month Battle with Mounting Medical Bills
Okanga’s son, Kadri Maloba, was hospitalized for over three months following a kidney failure diagnosis, leaving the family with soaring medical expenses. In an attempt to cover the costs, Okanga had to sell two of his cows.
Desperation and Hope: Seeking Help from Political Allies
Despite his efforts, the funds were insufficient, and the family struggled to settle the bill needed for Kadri’s discharge. Okanga reached out to his allies in the Azimio coalition, but only a few responded, leaving him in a challenging predicament.
CS Kindiki Steps in with Lifesaving Assistance
The turning point came when Interior CS Kithure Kindiki, moved by Okanga’s plight, generously covered the entire hospital bill. Overcome with gratitude, Okanga expressed his thanks on Facebook.

Nuru Okanga’s Remarkable Journey
Nuru Okanga’s life has been far from typical. Despite dropping out of school in the third grade due to financial hardships, he later returned to complete his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in 2023 at Mumias Muslim Primary School.
Ambitious Political Aspirations
With plans to further his education, Okanga aims to meet the qualifications necessary for his political ambitions, including a run for a Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat in Kholera Ward in 2027.
