Babu Owino- When Raila Gets the AU Job be Prepared to Follow Me

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has announced his intention to lead the ODM party if Raila Odinga secures the African Union Commission chairperson position.

Babu is optimistic that Raila will emerge victorious in the elections scheduled for early next year.

He remarked, “Baba akienda, mjitayarishe kufuata Babu! (When Baba goes, be ready to follow Babu).”

Raila Odinga is set to compete against Djiboutiโ€™s Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Mauritiusโ€™ Anil Kumarsingh Gayan, and Madagascarโ€™s Richard Randriamandrato for the position.

As he campaigns for the seat, the ODM party leader has been meeting with delegations from around the world in his office, garnering support for his candidacy.

During a roadside rally in Nairobi on Sunday, Babu urged the newly elected ODM officials to stand behind him.

ODM has appointed Governors Simba Arati and Abdulswamad Nassir, along with Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, as its deputy party leaders.

The party also reappointed Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as secretary general and party spokesperson. Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has been selected to replace John Mbadi as the national chairman.

Babu Owino emphasized that by February next year, Raila will head to Addis Ababa, leaving Babu to lead in his absence. He urged ODM members to prepare to rally behind him.

Babu also warned that he would take firm action against anyone who challenges his leadership, insisting that the party must remain focused on producing a president.

ODM has unveiled a new leadership team to fill the vacancies created by the Cabinet appointments of Hassan Joho, Wycliffe Oparanya, and John Mbadi.

Former Somali Foreign Affairs Minister Fawzia Yusuf Adam has thrown her support behind Raila Odinga for the AU Commission chairperson seat.

Fawzia, who was initially a contender, announced her withdrawal from the race on Friday and endorsed Railaโ€™s candidacy.
