Raila Odinga Congratulates New ODM Leadership Following Key Cabinet Appointments

ODM leader Raila Odinga has extended his congratulations to the newly appointed party officials, selected on Friday by the Central Management Committee.

Raila presided over the meeting in his role as party leader.

The party’s top decision-making body announced the new leadership lineup to fill vacancies created after Hassan Joho, Wycliffe Oparanya, and John Mbadi were appointed to the Cabinet.

President William Ruto appointed Mbadi as the CS for National Treasury, Joho as the CS for Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs, and Oparanya as the Cooperatives and MSMEs Cabinet Secretary.

Joho and Oparanya previously served as deputy party leaders, while Mbadi was the national chairman.

The party chose governors Simba Arati and Abdulswamad Nassir, along with Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, as the new deputy party leaders.

The Central Management Committee also selected Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga to succeed Mbadi as the national chairman.

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna retained his roles as secretary general and party spokesperson.

In a statement on X, Raila congratulated the newly proposed officials.

“Congratulations to our proposed new officials,” Raila remarked.

Sifuna stated that the Central Committee had proposed three names for deputy party leader and made additional appointments.

Rarieda MP Otiende Amolo and Turkana South MP John Ariko were appointed as vice chairmen.

Kajiado East MP Kakuta Maimai was chosen as the secretary for special programs and social welfare, Rahab Robi (Migori CEC) as secretary of publicity and information, Rosa Buyu (Kisumu West MP) as secretary for political affairs, and Ruth Odinga (Kisumu Woman Rep) as deputy organizing secretary.

“These vacancies have attracted significant interest from our members. We appreciate all those who offered to serve, acknowledging that many have already contributed greatly to the party,” Sifuna said in a statement.

He noted that while not every member can hold leadership positions simultaneously, those who missed out are still encouraged to contribute to the party’s growth.

“We will recommend to the National Executive Council and the National Governing Council that necessary changes be made to our constitution to reflect these appointments,” he added.
