Ruto’s Message to Nane Nane Protesters

President William Ruto has condemned the planned anti-government protests scheduled for Thursday and called on Kenyans to boycott.

Speaking in Embu on Wednesday, the president stated that the chaos resulting from the protests is destructive to property and is hindering the nation’s development.

“We are a peaceful country. We don’t want chaos in our country; we don’t want protests which lead to deaths and destruction of property. People’s properties are being destroyed,” he said.

The president at the same time said the formation of a broad-based government would offer better solutions to issues that have plagued the country.

The president, who was in the company of his deputy Rigathi Gachagua, launched different development projects in Embu.

The youth have been drumming up support across the country for the demonstrations dubbed ‘Nane Nane’ especially across social media platforms.

Acting Police Inspector General Gilbert Masengeli on Wednesday warned that the planned demonstrations slated for Thursday, dubbed ‘#NaneNaneMarch’ could be infiltrated by goons, threatening the country’s security.

Masengeli highlighted that intelligence reports had pointed to the same, insisting that officers would not hesitate to engage the marauders.

“The initial demonstrations held in June were peaceful but subsequent protests morphed into riots, with looters destroying and stealing property,” he said.

“Our intelligence reports indicate that there are security threats to the country with criminals planning to infiltrate tomorrow’s demonstrations and commit further crimes. In anticipation, we have ensured adequate deployment of personnel.”
