On Friday, Joe Khalende, a founding member of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), praised the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) for their decision to remove Cleophas Malala from the position of Secretary General.

In his statement, Khalende extended his full support to the newly appointed interim Secretary General, Hassan Omar, as he steps into his new role.

“He can count on our complete backing to assist Party Leader President William Ruto in advancing his goals of economic recalibration, national unity, and fulfilling his campaign promises,” declared Khalende, who has recently assumed the role of party secretary general.

Khalende emphasized the importance of strong leadership within the party and called for an immediate and comprehensive audit of the staff and procurement activities conducted during Malala’s term.

He also called for prompt and decisive measures against any party officials involved in the recent disturbances and violence at the party headquarters in Nairobi.

“We demand prompt and firm action against all officials who contributed to the security breaches, violence, and sabotage within the party,” Khalende stated.

“The Founding Members urge every party member to unite and support the Party Leader in bringing the country together.”

Khalende’s remarks came shortly after the UDA’s NEC decided to dismiss Cleophas Malala following recent unprecedented events within the party.

“The appointment of Hon Cleophas Malala as interim Secretary-General has been revoked, effective immediately,” the UDA statement read.

The UDA announcement also included plans for further adjustments in the party’s governance and administrative processes to advance its agenda.

“As the governing and policy-making body of the Party, the NEC plays a crucial role in steering the party’s political direction,” noted the UDA in its statement.

The NEC also instructed the party’s National Elections Board to implement necessary changes and proceed with the grassroots elections as previously scheduled.
