Prof. Kithure Kindiki’s Wealth Rises by Ksh 150 Million Amid Government Vetting
President William Ruto’s nominee for the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government, Prof. Kithure Kindiki, has seen his wealth grow by Ksh 150 million over the past 21 months in government.
Kindiki has reported that his net worth has increased from Ksh544 million in 2022 to Ksh694 million as of the current vetting process.
At present, Kindiki is under rigorous scrutiny by the National Assembly Committee on Appointments, led by Speaker Moses Wetangula, amid heightened calls for thorough investigations into the financial affairs of public figures.
As he undergoes questioning from the committee, Kindiki insists that his wealth increase is due to his legal career rather than any governmental transactions.
During his appearance before the committee on August 1, Kindiki defended his financial growth, attributing it mainly to the success of his legal practice.
He stated, “The rise in my net worth is largely due to my law practice. I have not conducted any business with the government or applied for any tenders, either directly or indirectly.”
Kindiki noted that a significant part of his wealth increase followed the repayment of a longstanding debt by a client of his legal firm, marking a key factor in the notable surge in his net worth.

He stressed that his financial gains come solely from legal fees and consulting work, asserting, “None of my wealth has been sourced from public funds apart from my official salary and allowances.”
In 2022, during a previous vetting, Kindiki had reported a net worth of Ksh544 million, which included land and buildings valued at around Ksh165 million, along with bank deposits and investments in shares and savings cooperatives totaling approximately Ksh50 million.
This scrutiny is part of a broader trend of increased vigilance over the financial status of government officials.
Other cabinet nominees have also disclosed their net worth, with Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi reporting Ksh4 billion, Public Service CS nominee Justin Muturi declaring Ksh700 million, Environment CS Nominee Aden Duale at Ksh851 million, Labour CS nominee Alfred Mutua at Ksh420 million, and Water and Sanitation CS nominee Alice Wahome revealing Ksh218 million.
As Kindiki goes through this vetting process, his financial disclosures are expected to remain under significant public and media scrutiny, with the ongoing investigation into his wealth playing a crucial role in assessing his suitability for the Ministerial position amid a climate of increased transparency demands in Kenya’s public sector.
