Kalonzo Musyoka Dismisses Claims of Relying on Raila Odinga’s Influence for Political Dominance

Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka denied on Wednesday any claims of relying on Azimio leader Raila Odinga’s influence for his political dominance.

Speaking at a burial in Machakos, Kalonzo emphasized that his political influence in Kenya had been significant long before his alliance with the former Prime Minister.

Kalonzo mentioned receiving reports suggesting that his current political dominance was linked to the presence of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader.

“Some are saying Kalonzo cannot stand without Raila, please spare us, we have stood before, we have been misunderstood before,” Kalonzo stated.

Kalonzo reaffirmed his role as the opposition leader and asserted that such criticism would not pressure him into joining President William Ruto’s administration.

He criticized Odinga’s ODM party for permitting some of its members to join Ruto’s cabinet despite being part of the opposition.

“ODM has taken their time to explain, but they will have a lot of explaining to do. But the rest of us are very clear about our intentions,” Kalonzo stated.

“We have no intention of joining President Ruto’s government but we wish them well,” he added.

Kalonzo’s comments came shortly after meeting with Raila Odinga and other Azimio leaders, including Jubilee’s Jeremiah Kioni and KANU’s Gideon Moi.

The Azimio leaders reportedly gathered to discuss various issues that were affecting the coalition’s political progress.

Kalonzo, sharing details of the meeting, revealed that Odinga met with coalition leaders to clarify the events leading to the nomination of the 4 ODM leaders to government positions.

“He sought to come and explain to his colleagues what happened. So, that picture you are seeing on social media, it’s just that,” the Wiper party leader revealed.

“We were able to explain to Raila that some of us cannot join what they term as government of national unity which is not. We have purposely chosen to be with the Kenyan people.”
