Embakasi MPs Gakuya, Mejja donk Released After Questioning Over Alleged Anti-Tax Protest Sponsorship
Embakasi North MP James Gaguya and Embakasi Central MP Benjamin Gathiru, known as Mejja Donk, have been released after being questioned at the DCI headquarters on Kiambu Road.
They were detained on Wednesday evening for questioning regarding their alleged sponsorship of the recent anti-tax protests that garnered global attention.
The MPs are among the latest allies of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to face questioning over the supposed funding of the Gen Z-led protests.
After their release, Gaguya dismissed the allegations, calling them a baseless witch hunt.
“Anyone with evidence of any wrongdoing on our part should come forward and specify ‘On this day, you financed ABCD’,” Gakuya stated.
The pair were questioned as detectives sought to identify those the government believes financed the protests, which sometimes turned violent, resulting in looting, business destruction, injuries, and deaths.

The government has repeatedly stated that what began as a peaceful constitutional right to protest by Gen Z was hijacked by paid goons to cause chaos and discredit the movement.
“They also asked if we were purchasing T-shirts and water, which I believe is purely political maneuvering,” said Mejjadonk.
Gaguya added, “They should cease this witch hunt of painting us as followers of someone else because we are not; we are members of UDA.”
Their interrogation brings the total number of Gachagua allies questioned about their possible role in sponsoring the demonstrations to five.
On Tuesday, detectives questioned former Embakasi West MP Eric Theuri, former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu, and Gachagua’s private secretary Munene wa Mumbi.
Wambugu now serves as a political advisor in the DP’s office, while Theuri works as a youth advisor in the same office.
