President Ruto Addresses Gen Zs Over Leaderless & Fearless Declaration

President William Ruto warned Kenyan youth on Wednesday about the dangers of using a ‘leaderless’ and ‘fearless’ attitude to incite violence and disorder in the nation.

Speaking at the Linzi Sukuk bond launch at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE), Ruto emphasized that while being leaderless and fearless can be positive traits, they should not lead to recklessness.

He stressed that Kenya is a proud democracy underpinned by the rule of law, and there is no place for violence within the constitutional framework.

“We value freedom and democracy, but our governance is grounded in the rule of law. Being fearless and leaderless is beneficial, but recklessness is not acceptable,” Ruto said.

He highlighted his pride in Kenya’s global progress and emphasized the need to protect the nation’s achievements.

Ruto also reassured both local and international investors about Kenya’s stability and pledged to address any threats to the country’s peace.

The President cautioned against using the internet for cyberbullying and attacking leaders under the guise of ‘sending greetings,’ noting that such behavior is illegal.

Instead, he encouraged youth to leverage the Internet as a means of economic opportunity.

These comments followed recent changes in Ruto’s administration, which came after youth-led anti-government protests.

The changes included the dissolution of his cabinet and a commitment to form a more inclusive government.

Additionally, Ruto announced the resignation of Japhet Koome as Inspector General of Police, with Douglas Kanja nominated to fill the role. Two new Deputy Inspector Generals were also appointed.

New cabinet secretaries have been nominated and will undergo vetting this week, including four senior officials from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
