Tragic Discovery: Kisumu Man Kills Wife, Himself as 6-Year-Old Son Watches
On Monday morning, residents of Metameta in Manyatta estate, Kisumu County, grew concerned when they noticed the children of one of their neighbors playing outside without any sign of their parents.
Previously, a motorbike taxi driver who typically transports the children to school had arrived to pick them up. However, he left after the eldest child, aged six, told him, “Watu wamekufa hapa ndani” (People are dead inside the house). Assuming the boy was joking, the driver left.
Margaret Otieno, the landlady, was the next to approach the children.
“I had just started my laundry when I saw the kids playing outside. I became curious and asked them why they weren’t in school and where their parents were. They told me their parents were dead. Initially, I thought they were joking until I went inside their house,” Ms. Otieno recounted.
Upon discovering the children’s father lying on the floor, the landlady rushed to her neighbor, George Omondi, who is a medic. They returned to the house, where Mr. Omondi made some unsettling observations.
“The man was lying face up on the floor. I didn’t want to touch him, so I used my flashlight and saw his eyes were static and he seemed to have foamed at the mouth,” Mr. Omondi reported.

“I initially didn’t realize the wife was also dead until I saw her lifeless body on the bed, covered in blood with a knife nearby.”
Intrigued by the situation, Mr. Omondi and Ms. Otieno decided to question the children.
The couple’s eldest child described how he saw his father grab his mother by the mouth and repeatedly stab her with a knife. He also recounted seeing his father attempt to hang himself with a rope but fail, ultimately resorting to poison.
According to a police report from Kondele Police Station, there was no noise coming from the house, which is why neighbors did not hear anything suspicious.
The report also noted that Felix Owiti, 32, appeared agitated at work on Sunday.
“The bar owner reported that the deceased was unusually angry and disturbed at work and asked for money, which his employer sent to his phone,” the police report stated.
Gossipa2z.com also learned from the report that Mr. Owiti had bruises on his neck and foam on both sides of his mouth, while his wife, Jacinta Atieno, 26, had severe stab wounds on her neck and chest.

An anonymous detective revealed that the deceased’s mobile phone was found hidden in his underwear, and the motive for the murder remains unclear.
Witnesses said the couple was last seen alive early Monday morning leaving Osiepe Bar and Restaurant, where Mr. Owiti worked as a manager and his wife as a cleaner.
Neighbor Charles Opaka mentioned that they had previously intervened during a domestic dispute between the couple. He recalled a serious fight two weeks ago that led the woman to leave temporarily, but she returned a week later.
“Since her return, they had been living peacefully, helping each other with chores. It’s incredibly hard to believe they are dead now,” Mr. Opaka said.
Ms. Otieno described Mr. Owiti as an introvert who rarely engaged with neighbors beyond greetings.
“The few times we met, he kept to himself and didn’t speak much,” she noted.
The couple leaves behind three children: two sons aged six and three, and a four-year-old daughter. The bodies have been taken to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem.
