Kalonzo Musyoka Directs Wiper MPs to Reject ODM Cabinet Nominees During Vetting
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka disclosed on Sunday that he instructed his MPs to reject the cabinet secretaries nominated by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.
He clarified that as part of the Azimio Coalition, ODM had stated that the four cabinet nominees were joining President William Ruto’s government in their capacities.
Therefore, Kalonzo asserted that Wiper would oppose the CS nominees during the vetting process since the coalition had not approved the appointments.
“I have instructed Wiper Members of Parliament to vote against the four nominees when their names are presented for vetting,” Kalonzo stated.
Speaking in his hometown of Kyuso, Mwingi in Kitui County, the former vice president expressed his interest in observing how ODM MPs would vote.
He pointed out that despite ODM’s claims of not sanctioning the nominations, the truth would surface during the vetting process. “ODM is in a big trap now. If they vote yes during vetting, Kenyans will know they were lying about the members acting independently,” Kalonzo commented.

He viewed the process as suspicious, questioning how the party’s top leadership could join the government without proper authorization.
He cited the examples of deputy party leaders Ali Hassan Joho and Wycliffe Oparanya, along with National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi, being nominated to Ruto’s cabinet.
Kalonzo also felt disrespected by the nomination process and the events that followed. “As a leader in our coalition, I should have been consulted. I was not aware,” Kalonzo lamented.
He emphasized that Opiyo Wandayi’s selection as minority leader by Azimio meant his cabinet appointment should have involved the coalition, not just the party.
Kalonzo concluded that if the vetting process succeeded, the ODM leaders would face failure. He questioned how an ODM member could implement policies like the bottom-up economic approach that Azimio had previously opposed.
