DRC President Tshisekedi Accuses Ruto of Mismanaging Nairobi Peace Talks Amid Tensions with Rwanda
DRC President Félix Tshisekedi has accused President William Ruto of mishandling the Nairobi-led peace talks, which are overseen by Former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
During a panel discussion at the Brookings Institution, Tshisekedi claimed that Ruto was biased towards Rwanda amid accusations that President Paul Kagame was backing rebels in DRC.
Tshisekedi has repeatedly charged Rwanda with supporting the M23 rebels who are opposing his government.
He asserts that the talks have stalled due to poor management.
The Nairobi-led negotiations were designed to broker a ceasefire and agreement between the DRC government and the rebels.
“There are two processes. The Nairobi Process, initially managed by Uhuru Kenyatta, was later taken over by President William Ruto, who handled it poorly,” Tshisekedi remarked.
He added that the process is nearly defunct, despite Uhuru Kenyatta’s continued involvement as the facilitator. Tshisekedi believes Ruto has aligned himself with Rwanda’s interests.

However, Tshisekedi did not specify how Ruto’s management was flawed, choosing not to elaborate further on the issue.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ruto have yet to respond to these allegations.
Recently, Kenya and DRC’s relationship has been tense, especially following criticism from opposition leaders in Kenya about the DRC government.
At that time, the DRC had urged the Ruto administration to arrest the politicians, a request Kenya rejected.
“Kenya firmly disassociates itself from any statements or actions that might harm the peace and security of the DRC and has initiated an investigation to identify those responsible and assess whether their remarks are constitutionally protected.
“Kenya reaffirms its non-interference in DRC’s internal matters and remains committed to supporting the country’s peace, security, and democratic development,” stated Foreign CS Musalia Mudavadi.
