Kalonzo Musyoka Appointed as Azimio la Umoja Leader Amid Raila Odinga’s AUC Campaign
On Thursday, July 25, the Azimio la Umoja- One Kenya coalition appointed Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka as the new leader of the political organization.
Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni announced that Raila Odinga, the current Azimio Leader, was occupied with his campaign for the Africa Union Commission (AUC) chairperson position.
The Azimio leaders also disclosed that members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) had joined President William Ruto’s cabinet individually, as the coalition had decided not to engage in talks with the President.
Kioni expressed gratitude to Raila Odinga for his successful leadership of the Coalition since its inception and conveyed well wishes for his upcoming AUC campaign, explaining why Kalonzo Musyoka would now assume leadership.
Kioni affirmed that Kalonzo Musyoka would continue leading the coalition during Raila’s AUC campaign, highlighting that the coalition had resolved to support Kalonzo in his new role.
Regarding the inclusion of ODM members in Ruto’s cabinet, Kioni clarified that the coalition had not approved this action.

Azimio criticized Ruto’s appointment of ODM members, stating that it undermined Kenya’s multiparty system and contradicted both the Kenyan Constitution and the National Dialogue Committee’s (NADCO) recommendations.
In support of Kenyans opposing the new cabinet appointments, the Kalonzo-led team emphasized the need for genuine reforms rather than recycling politicians into high-level government positions.
Kioni conveyed the coalition’s stance against participating in the proposed broad-based government of national unity, calling it a betrayal of Kenyans, particularly Gen Z and millennials.
The coalition condemned ODM members who accepted cabinet nominations, calling it a betrayal of the 70 Kenyans who died during the anti-government protests in June and July.
Azimio clarified that ODM members joining Ruto’s cabinet were doing so in their personal capacity, with no ODM representatives present at the press conference or any apology issued.
