Flights Diverted from JKIA to Mombasa, Tanzania- Here is Why
Several flights scheduled to land at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Thursday, July 24, were rerouted.
The Kenya Meteorological Department’s warning of adverse weather conditions led to this unexpected change.
Poor visibility caused by the weather led control tower operators to direct pilots to divert to Moi International Airport in Mombasa.
Flights that had not yet entered Kenyan airspace were redirected to Kilimanjaro International Airport in Tanzania.
Passengers were informed of potential delays in their departure and arrival times in Nairobi.
“We understand that this may cause inconvenience but please be assured that we have implemented all necessary safety measures, with the well-being of our crew and customers being our top priority,” the statement said.

Travelers were urged to be patient as airlines await improved weather conditions to ensure safe flights.
Other airlines, both domestic and international, had not yet provided similar updates to their passengers.
In the morning, fog covered several areas of Nairobi, reducing visibility on the roads. Drivers were advised to exercise caution during these adverse conditions.
This delay follows a recent warning from the Kenya Met Department about cold nighttime temperatures and increased rainfall in various parts of the country.
On Tuesday, the Kenya Met Department predicted nighttime temperatures dropping below 10 degrees and daytime highs reaching up to 35 degrees in certain regions.
Kenyans were advised to take necessary precautions to adapt to these weather changes.
