Ford Foundation Denies Allegations of Sponsoring Anarchy in Kenya, Reaffirms Charitable Mission
The Ford Foundation, based in the US, denied allegations on Friday that it sponsored 16 NGOs to incite unrest in Kenya.
Acknowledging a letter from Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Foundation clarified that its activities in Kenya are purely for charitable purposes.
The Foundation emphasized that all operational details in Kenya are transparently available on its website.
Darren Walker mentioned that the data on their website reveals how the Foundation allocates its funds in Kenya.
The Ford Foundation affirmed its support for peaceful advocacy in Kenya but condemned any form of hateful speech or violence against institutions, individuals, or communities.

The Foundation reiterated its dedication to continuing its 60-year legacy in Kenya and the broader East African region.
Darren Walker’s response came shortly after Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’Oei demanded an accountability report from the Ford Foundation regarding allegations of funding 16 NGOs.
A letter obtained by Gossipa2z.com revealed that the government accused the Foundation of providing at least Sh752 million to Kenyan organizations from April 2023 to May 2024.
PS Korir Sing’oei asked the Foundation to disclose all its grantees in Kenya over the past year, along with the approved programs and budgets for the last three months.
The letter questioned whether the substantial funds disbursed to non-state recipients were being used appropriately and if the Foundation had abandoned its Non-Lobbying Policy to influence Kenya’s internal political processes.
