Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti Fires Chief of Staff Lawrence Ngovi
Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has dismissed her chief of staff, Lawrence Ngovi.
The County Secretary and Head of Public Service, Dr. Muya Ndambuki, announced Ngovi’s dismissal on Friday.
According to a statement from Ndambuki, “We inform the public that Mr. Lawrence Nzau Ngovi is no longer serving as Chief of Staff for Machakos County, effective today, July 19, 2024. He no longer has authorization to conduct any business on behalf of the county.”
The statement did not provide any details about the reasons for Ngovi’s removal.
Efforts by the Star to get Ngovi’s comments on his dismissal were unsuccessful, as he had not responded to the reporter’s inquiries by the time of publication.
An official from the governor’s office expressed regret over Ngovi’s dismissal.

“It’s unfortunate because I have lost a long-time boss. We’ve worked together for many years,” the official said.
Ngovi has been a close ally of the governor for a long time, having transitioned with her from her previous Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) party to the Wiper Democratic Movement, which led to her election in 2022.
He has consistently supported Ndeti, demonstrating loyalty since her initial run for the Machakos gubernatorial seat.
Ngovi was a key figure in the governor’s campaigns, actively supporting her in the 2017 gubernatorial race, which she lost to former Tourism CS Alfred Mutua.
He was a prominent presence in the governor’s protocol and attended most of her public events.
The two have worked together within the devolved government’s Executive since then.
