President Ruto Appoints Mudavadi as Acting Cabinet Secretary Across Ministries After Cabinet Dismissal

President William Ruto has designated Prime Minister Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi to serve as acting Cabinet Secretary across all ministries.

According to a gazette notice issued on July 11, Ruto announced Mudavadi’s appointment to assume the CS role across various ministries.

This decision follows the President’s dismissal of all cabinet secretaries just a week earlier.

“That under Article 152 (5) (a) of the Constitution, Hon. Wycliffe Musalia Mudavadi, E.G.H., is assigned as the Acting Cabinet Secretary in all vacant ministerial portfolios,” the gazette notice read.

Ruto disbanded his entire cabinet, dismissing all Cabinet Secretaries and the Attorney General.

Only Mudavadi, the Prime Cabinet Secretary who also serves as the Foreign and Diaspora Affairs CS, remained after the purge.

The President announced that the new cabinet would be appointed following thorough consultations across all sectors.

He noted that in the absence of Cabinet Secretaries, ministry accounting officers, and other officials will now oversee operations.

“I will immediately engage in extensive consultations across different sectors and political formations, to set up a broad-based government that will assist me in accelerating and expediting the necessary, urgent, and irreversible, implementation of radical programs to deal with the burden of debt, raise domestic resources, expanding job opportunities, eliminate wastage and unnecessary duplication of a multiplicity of government agencies and slay the dragon of corruption consequently making the government lean, inexpensive, effective and efficient,” Ruto said.

“The operations of government will continue uninterrupted under the guidance of Principal Secretaries and other relevant officials.”

The Head of State announced that the upcoming cabinet will be selected following thorough consultations across various sectors.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua expressed full support for the President’s efforts in forming a new team aimed at advancing his agenda.

Gachagua advised Ruto to seek out Cabinet Secretaries who demonstrate humility and avoid political engagements.

He emphasized the importance of assembling a competent team dedicated solely to assisting the President.

Gachagua stressed the necessity of prioritizing service delivery to the people of Kenya over personal interests.

“Mr President we support you 100 percent in the steps you have taken to dissolve the cabinet to reconstitute it afresh and look for Cabinet Secretaries who will help you run the government,” Gachagua said.

“Ministers are not arrogant and boastful, ministers who will not engage in politics. Those will be there to assist you together with us to move the country forward. You get a good team that will create efficiency and harmony that will put the people of Kenya before their interests.”
