Undercover: Criminal Groups Plot to Disrupt Tuesday Demos
Police have received credible intelligence regarding organized criminal groups intending to disrupt peaceful demonstrations scheduled for Tuesday.
Acting Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has cautioned demonstrators to remain vigilant against potential threats to their safety.
“We have received credible intelligence this morning indicating plans by organized criminal groups to infiltrate and disrupt the peaceful demonstrations, posing risks to participants’ safety,” Kanja stated.
He urged demonstrators to maintain peace and collaborate with law enforcement for their safety and national security.

Kanja assured that the police would enforce the rule of law, protect citizens, and ensure everyone’s constitutional rights during the events.
Youth-led protests across Kenya initially protested the Finance Bill, 2024. Despite President William Ruto withdrawing the controversial bill, dissolving his Cabinet, and pledging government austerity, demands for his resignation persist.
Calls of “Ruto must go” continue on social media and in public demonstrations.
Previous protests resulted in the deaths of over 40 protesters, with criticism directed at Kenyan police for excessive use of force, arrests, and alleged abductions of youth.
Following intense scrutiny over police conduct during demonstrations, Inspector General Japhet Koome resigned on Friday.
Previous protests also saw incidents of looting and vandalism, often attributed to hired individuals.
