Security Barricades and Police Presence Removed Around Nairobi’s State House

All security barricades on roads leading to State House, Nairobi, have been dismantled.

The General Service Unit (GSU) officers, police vehicles, and riot control trucks previously stationed in the area have been removed.

Residents and commuters in Nairobi now see open roads and the absence of the heavy police presence that had become typical around State House.

This removal of security measures signals a return to normalcy, improving traffic flow and accessibility.

The roads leading to the House on the Hill include State House, Dennis Pritt, and Processional Way Roads.

The initial road closures and stringent security measures were implemented due to various factors.

Security concerns, including threats of political unrest and demonstrations by anti-finance bill protesters, necessitated these measures to protect the presidential residence and its surroundings.

At one point, Kenyan youth had threatened to march to the State House to express their dissatisfaction with the now-withdrawn taxes.

The removal of the barricades and withdrawal of security personnel indicate a reduction in the tensions or threats that led to these measures.

On July 2, Mamlaka Road was blocked near the University Way Roundabout, preventing any motorist or pedestrian from accessing Processional Way.

All main gates to the State House were blocked, and police tanks were strategically placed around the area.

Water cannons were stationed around State House amidst heavy police presence, and every vehicle attempting to access State House Road underwent thorough security searches.

Only security and media vehicles were permitted through the nearly impenetrable security posts.
