Rift Valley Leaders Defend President Ruto Amid Protests, Accuse Opponents of Civilian Coup Plot

Two Rift Valley leaders defended President William Ruto on Wednesday, stating that the protests would not sway him.

Mogotio MP Reuben Kiborek accused Kenyans posing as protestors of attempting a civilian coup to overthrow the President.

He claimed that this unruly group was aiming to seize power illegitimately.

“These individuals intended to execute a civilian coup, hijacking a genuine cause and turning it violent,” the MP asserted.

Kiborek emphasized that William Ruto was legitimately elected by the people and that any attempt to undermine the will expressed in the 2022 election would fail.

Conversely, William Kamket, Tiaty MP, accused certain politicians of using young Kenyans to oppose Ruto due to previous disagreements.

Kamket disclosed that some regional leaders advised President Ruto to support the Finance Bill 2024 to identify his true allies.

“There are leaders who oppose the president and secretly back the demonstrations, using our children to feign support,” he stated.

The two politicians commended young Kenyans for their bravery in defending justice through peaceful protests infiltrated by politically-backed troublemakers.

The lawmakers noted that this was a positive step towards involving young Kenyans in the country’s decision-making process. President Ruto had earlier called for dialogue with Gen Zs.

Furthermore, they urged the government to address anyone attempting to disrupt the country’s peace. Investigations are ongoing to ensure all involved are held accountable.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki assured Kenyans on Tuesday that his ministry was committed to restoring peace at any cost, stressing that those found guilty would face justice.
