Nelson Koech Defends ‘YES’ Vote on Withdrawn Finance Bill, Says Reality Will Sink in Soon
Belgut Member of Parliament, Nelson Koech, defended his decision to support the now-withdrawn Finance Bill, 2024, by voting ‘YES’.
During an interview on Thursday, the United Democratic Alliance member expressed no regret, emphasizing that Kenyans will eventually appreciate the MPs who backed the bill.
“I stand by my vote in favor of the Finance Bill. Why should I apologize?” Koech stated during a morning talk show on Citizen TV.
He explained that MPs had thoroughly examined the bill, removing any clauses deemed not in Kenyans’ best interests.
“You will soon feel the benefits and thank those who voted yes,” he added.
Koech mentioned that the government will need to find alternative methods to raise funds for its operations.

He also criticized the opposition for pressuring President William Ruto to deliver with limited resources.
Meanwhile, some UDA-allied MPs have publicly apologized after receiving widespread backlash from Kenyans.
Among those who apologized are Central Turkana MP Joseph Namuar and Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot.
Namuar praised President William Ruto’s decision to decline to sign the bill, highlighting the opportunity for constructive dialogue.
He noted that Kenya has set a positive example for other democracies.
Last week, President William Ruto, responding to nationwide protests, refused to sign the bill into law.
The historic protests saw youths storming Parliament, demanding that MPs heed Kenyans’ opposition to the bill.
