Rigathi Gachagua: My sons, initially, did not back William Ruto’s State House bid

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, known for his straightforwardness, disclosed that his sons did not back President William Ruto’s presidential campaign.

Gachagua recounted that the matter was so contentious that when he urged his family to vote together, the decision was split evenly, two to two, within their family of four.

He shared this during a church service at Kaplong Deliverance Church in Sotik, Bomet County, stating that as the head of the family, he made the final call, resulting in his children eventually supporting Dr. Ruto.

While his sons, Keith and Kevin, were wary of opposing the former government, Gachagua said he was convinced that Dr. Ruto was the best candidate for the presidency.

He mentioned that they often had disagreements, requiring their mother to mediate. Supporting President Ruto, they faced significant challenges due to their opposition to the government’s stance.

Gachagua recounted how the previous administration pressured him to abandon his support for Dr. Ruto, then the deputy president, even threatening imprisonment with numerous court cases.

Despite this, he chose to stand by President Ruto, believing in his vision. His wife, Pastor Dorcas, supported him, making it two against two in the family. As the family leader, he cast the decisive vote to support Ruto.

These revelations come amid signs of a growing rift between Gachagua and the President, hinted at during the church service.

However, Gachagua expressed confidence that the issues affecting their relationship would be resolved in the spirit of development, unity, and democracy.

He attributed the friction within the Kenya Kwanza administration to recent government entrants trying to influence those who have long supported Dr. Ruto.
