Tensions Rise: All is Not Well Between Me and My Boss William Ruto, Gachagua Admits
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has hinted strongly at tensions between him and President William Ruto.
Gachagua mentioned that any issues between him and the President will be resolved for the sake of development, unity, and democracy.
He pointed out that recent rifts in the Kenya Kwanza administration are due to new government members influencing how long-time supporters of President Ruto should interact with him.
In another sign of the strained relationship, Gachagua said he would address youth concerns about governance independently of President Ruto’s initiatives.
Gachagua expressed confidence in his friendship with the President, emphasizing their ability to resolve any differences and urging other leaders to de-escalate tensions.
The DP noted that some Kenya Kwanza coalition members do not respect him or his office.
“Respect the office of the Deputy President, regardless of personal feelings, as you would want the same respect if you were in this position,” Gachagua stated during a Sunday church service in Bomet County.

He vowed to continue advising the President truthfully about issues affecting Kenyans.
Gachagua criticized some government members who are uncomfortable with the truth, stressing the need to address real issues raised by the people rather than looking for scapegoats.
His recent criticism of National Intelligence Services Director General Noordin Haji, over inadequate intelligence briefs to the President regarding the Finance Bill 2024, was seen as an indirect attack on Ruto.
This criticism highlighted the possibility that the President ignored intelligence about the bill’s unpopularity, pushing MPs to support it despite public opposition.
Gachagua’s hesitation to support the Finance Bill, especially after backlash over his “one man, one shilling” policy, showed his political vulnerability.
He has recently aligned more with former President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, raising questions about his future in the 2027 General Election and the UDA Party.
Gachagua has been denied access to government helicopters, forcing him to use private ones, further indicating his fallout with the President.
He has missed key events like welcoming the President at the airport and important government meetings.
Gachagua criticized Cabinet Secretaries, senior civil servants, and politicians for undermining him.
At a function where local MPs were absent, he accused those who opposed Ruto in the last election of now criticizing those who supported him.

Professor Barchok noted the absence of local MPs from the event, suggesting possible instructions to keep away, with only one sending an apology.
Several key local politicians were absent from the church service and fundraiser event.

He emphasized the importance of treating the electorate with respect and humility, avoiding displays of arrogance and opulence.
Gachagua urged MPs who supported the Finance Bill 2024, which President Ruto rejected and returned to parliament, to apologize to their constituents.
He praised the President for listening to the public and engaging in consultations to address their concerns.
Gachagua stressed the need for the government to heed diverse opinions on policies affecting Kenyans.
He plans to engage with the youth to understand their concerns and help address the issues they face.
The DP acknowledged the backlash against MPs who supported the Finance Bill and urged them to face their constituents directly.
Professor Barchok said the disrespect towards the Deputy President’s office has fueled public discontent with the government.
He called on politicians to act with humility and within their mandate to unite the country.

MP Ngeno pleaded with voters to allow MPs to return home and focus on development, even if they need to apologize for their stance on the Finance Bill.
Senator Seki called on President Ruto and Gachagua to provide clear leadership and guidance, emphasizing the need for MPs to apologize and reconnect with their constituents.
