Foreign Affairs PS Sing’oei Slams Gov’t Over Alfred Keter’s Abduction

Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary, Kipkorir Sing’oei, criticized the government on Sunday for the arbitrary arrests reported since the start of the Finance Bill, 2024 protests.

Reacting to a viral video, the PS highlighted the alleged abduction of former Nandi Hills Member of Parliament, Alfred Keter, expressing concerns over the incident.

Kipkorir warned against the government’s use of extra-judicial methods to arrest individuals, regardless of the situation.

He emphasized that even if the arrests served legitimate purposes, the methods were crude and did not adhere to constitutional guidelines.

“There is a procedure for effecting an arrest. This is not one of them. We must resist the temptation to adopt extra-legal means even in the pursuit of legitimate objectives,” stated Kipkorir.

In the viral video that prompted his comments, the former legislator was forcibly removed from his vehicle by a group of hooded men.

The group approached Keter’s vehicle in Lavington, Nairobi County, and forcibly removed him amidst his cries for help.

He was then taken away in a pick-up truck, leaving his family in the vehicle.

The abduction reportedly occurred on Sunday afternoon while the family was leaving church.

“Abducted, headed to an unknown destination,” posted a social media account associated with Keter shortly after the incident.

The former legislator has been in the spotlight recently for criticizing the Kenya Kwanza government.

Following these critiques, several individuals have claimed that the government was involved in the kidnappings.
