The Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs (PCS-MFDA) announced the arrest of several senior officials in the ministry following a Saturday crackdown.

A statement from the ministry on Sunday confirmed the arrest of Salim Swaleh, Director of the Press Service at the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary (OPCS), for alleged corruption.

The statement mentioned that “Salim Swaleh, Director of OPCS Press Service, was among those arrested, with swindlers found in his office using fake door switch-nametags.”

Additionally, the ministry disclosed that the arrested officials and their partners rented office spaces to facilitate illegal activities for unscrupulous business people.

Mudavadi’s office reported that the officials had perfected their illegal operations, including switching door nametags to deceive their victims.

The ministry detailed that the arrests followed a tipoff leading OPCS-MFDA security to conduct surveillance at the Railways Office to thwart the impersonation and facility misuse by fraudsters.

Security teams tracked a group pretending to be visitors to access the Railways Building, where Mudavadi’s office is situated.

The group falsified their identities, posing as VIP guests or government officers visiting at various times.

Victims, mainly foreigners, were lured to the Railways Building under the pretense of meeting high-ranking Government officials for favors in exchange for bribes.

Mudavadi’s office reported that the officials tried to bribe their way out upon their arrest.

“After being apprehended at the OPCS-MFDA Railway offices where they awaited their victims, the group attempted to bribe their way out,” the statement read.

The OPCS-MFDA has called for information to help uncover any further corruption activities within the ministry.
