Wandayi Rebukes Kahiga for Incendiary Comments

Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi has rebuked Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, labeling his recent comments as irresponsible and inciting discord in the country.

Wandayi criticized Kahiga for leveraging internal UDA conflicts to stir national animosity, noting that many Kenyans are unconcerned with the ruling party’s disputes since they are not members and do not understand the root of the current issues.

Kahiga, while speaking at a Nyeri Church about Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s alleged mistreatment, also criticized the distribution of funds, claiming some regions received more than Mt Kenya despite contributing fewer votes to President William Ruto’s 2022 victory.

Kahiga expressed discontent over government investments in Bungoma stadiums and sugarcane sector debts, arguing that coffee should receive equal attention.

Wandayi highlighted that the Luo community has prospered despite long periods of being out of government.

“This entitlement mentality, as shown in Governor Kahiga’s comments, must end,” he stated.

He asserted that the Kenyan government is for all citizens, not just those who voted for it and that all taxpayers deserve development, regardless of their voting choices.

“Kenyans from Kakamega, Bungoma, Migori, Siaya, and Nyeri all pay taxes and thus deserve development equally,” the MP stated.

He also condemned the governor’s public remarks, arguing that as an elected leader, Kahiga should not engage in what he described as “primitive and backward politics.”

“We are uninterested in your UDA party’s internal conflicts but don’t use that struggle to insult other Kenyans. If we start saying only government supporters should pay taxes, where will that lead us?” Wandayi questioned.

He emphasized that leaders must be responsible and mindful of their public statements.

“High-ranking officials must be responsible and cautious with their words. Do not use UDA’s internal battles to create national discord.”

Wandayi reiterated that no Kenyan community should be mocked based on their voting patterns and that Governor Kahiga should be held accountable.
