Gachagua to critics: Don’t talk about me in Rift Valley or Western

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has urged Mt Kenya leaders who oppose his unity initiative to stop discussing him in the Western and Rift Valley regions. Instead, he challenged them to address their concerns within the Mt Kenya region.

Gachagua made this statement during a visit to former Mukurwe-ini MP Anthony Githiaka Kiaiโ€™s rural home in Gikondi Village, Nyeri County, after attending a memorial service for Kiaiโ€™s daughter, Elizabeth Muthoni.

He called on the public to ignore leaders opposing his unity and growth efforts. He suggested that if they find the unity talks unfavorable, they should come to Mt Kenya and explain to the people why unity is not beneficial, rather than discussing it elsewhere.

Gachagua advised local leaders to focus on local politics and listen to their constituents. He highlighted that some leaders are trying to undermine unity, stressing that his push for regional unity is not as tribal as some claim.

He urged leaders to align their views with the people’s desires and affirmed his commitment to listening to the public for regional growth. Gachagua emphasized that he consistently aligns with the people’s will, which has been the key to his political success.

He reiterated that the unity of the Mt Kenya region is for its collective benefit, not against any individual and that it helps secure government support.

Addressing residents at Gikondi Shopping Centre in Nyeri, Gachagua thanked them for electing the Kenya Kwanza government. He promised that the government would waive their coffee debts and bring developments to the area, emphasizing that the entire Mount Kenya region would benefit significantly from unity.

He stressed that their strength lies in unity and commended Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga for voicing the people’s concerns. He urged residents not to be divided by their opponents.

Governor Kahiga supported Gachaguaโ€™s remarks, stating they would not tolerate any disrespect towards the Deputy President. He acknowledged Gachaguaโ€™s role in supporting the President with reforms, including those in the coffee sector, and warned that they would defend Gachagua against any opposition.
