Farouk Kibet, President William Ruto’s aide on Wednesday led politicians in responding to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over his recent remarks.

While speaking in Mosop, Nandi County, Kibet argued that the unity of a country was more important than one individual.

“Watu wanajitakia makuu, wacha wakuje watuulize kura siku ya mwisho. Sisi tunapongeza waheshimiwa ambao wanadumisha umoja,” he stated.

This statement is loosely translated to “Some people are out here seeking great things but let them come later to ask for votes. We laud leaders who are looking to foster and sustain unity.”

Lari MP Joseph Kahang’ara on the other hand emphasised that President Ruto ascended to power on his own and did not need anyone to win over the Mt Kenya vote bloc.

Kahang’ara remarked that during the 2022 General Election Ruto was in Mt Kenya region campaigning alone.

“The President was proactive and he alone won over the region before the elections. Therefore it is a mistake for anyone to come out and claim that they ‘gave’ the mountain to Ruto,” he stated.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah also called on leaders to refrain from engaging in politics and instead concentrate on supporting the President’s vision.

Mudavadi opined that any talks of disunity locally undermine Ruto’s efforts to ensure peace in warring neighboring countries.

“How will it be that when the President is building a name for Kenya in the region and globally yet you want to backtrack his efforts back home?” The Prime CS posed.

Ichung’wah, on his part, insisted that any efforts to bully other leaders into subscribing to a specific ideology would not be tolerated.

“There are leaders who have taken it upon themselves to disrespect other leaders on account of their age and where they come from.

“We must tell each other that respect is earned and never demanded through coercion, intimidation, or insulting other leaders,” he said
