Your Days Are Numbered- South Rift Leaders Defend Deputy President Gachagua Against Calls to Resign from UDA
South Rift leaders, led by Emurua Dikkir MP Johanna Ng’eno, criticized those urging Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to leave the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party on Monday, June 3.
They emphasized that DP Rigathi deserves respect as part of President William Ruto’s administration.
“I also have issues with some cabinet secretaries but I don’t disrespect them because they are part of Ruto’s government, whom I respect,” Ng’eno stated.
Ng’eno stressed that disrespecting the DP equates to disrespecting President Ruto. He urged those making disparaging remarks about the Deputy President to cease.
He suggested that any leader with concerns about DP Rigathi should meet with him privately to resolve issues instead of airing grievances publicly.
Other leaders echoed Ng’eno’s sentiments, noting that President William Ruto won the election with Gachagua’s support.
They highlighted that residents from Mt Kenya significantly supported Ruto and Gachagua in the 2022 General Elections.

“Without Mt Kenya residents, Ruto wouldn’t have secured 51 percent of the required votes. They turned out early to vote,” one leader noted.
Another leader warned those threatening the Deputy President, saying, “Your days are numbered and ending.”
He reassured Gachagua of the region’s support and expressed confidence in Gachagua succeeding Ruto.
This criticism emerged amid rising tensions within the ruling party. Last month, Nation reported that Gachagua was considering forming a new political party.
The DP refuted these claims and demanded an apology from the media house, asserting that the article aimed to undermine his position in the UDA party.
“Linking His Excellency the Deputy President to another party, especially one with questionable associations, was done in bad faith to undermine his role as Deputy Party Leader of the UDA Party,” the DP’s letter stated.
