UDA MP Gabriel Kagombe Detained for 5 Days After Fatal Shooting Incident in Thika

Gatundu South Member of Parliament Gabriel Kagombe will remain at the Muthaiga Police Station until Friday, June 7.

His detention was declared on Monday, June 3, after the MP appeared in court following a shooting incident.

Kagombe, who appeared before a court in Machakos County, will enter his plea on Friday regarding the shooting.

During his appearance at the Machakos Court, Kagombe pleaded not guilty, resulting in his detention.

The MP was accompanied by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) who coordinated with other security authorities to maintain order at the courthouse in case the MP’s supporters caused disruptions.

The MP, affiliated with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), was accused of fatally shooting a resident in Thika, Kiambu County, last month.

Kagombe was arrested on Friday in connection with the fatal shooting of the boda boda rider.

The May incident stemmed from an argument between two political parties, which escalated into a physical altercation where a resident was shot dead.

It is believed that the violence erupted when the leaders arrived for the construction of the Kiganjo market.

Some residents at the scene recorded the clashes and insults exchanged between the groups.

Viral videos show police struggling to control the violence, using tear gas to disperse the groups, but the chaos persisted.

Other leaders quickly fled in their cars as residents sought safety.

MP Kagombe, along with his supporters, was also trying to restore peace when the rider was fatally shot amidst the chaos.
