Ugenya MP Warns President Ruto: Your Main Opponent In 2027 Is Not Raila
Ugenya MP David Ochieng’ has cautioned President William Ruto that his primary challenge in Nyanza for the 2027 elections will be service delivery rather than Azimio leader Raila Odinga or the ODM party.
He emphasized to President Ruto that the main issue in Nyanza will be the Kenya Kwanza administration’s ability to fulfill its development promises, as the residents are keen on seeing their demands met by the government.
Speaking on Sunday at the burial of ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo’s elder brother, Jackson Nyunja Owalo, in Rarieda, Ochieng’ highlighted the need for President Ruto to ensure equitable distribution of national resources to the region.
“The real challenge is meeting the people’s demands… If you’re constructing roads in Central Kenya and the Rift Valley, give us our fair share of roads… when recruiting for the army, allocate our fair share; that’s how you win support,” the MP stated.

As a member of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, Ochieng’ expressed frustration that the government has not delivered on any of the development promises made during President Ruto’s previous visit to Nyanza, making it difficult for them with the electorate.
Bondo MP Gideon Ochanda echoed these sentiments, urging the government to include some of the promised projects in the 2024/2025 budget estimates to demonstrate their cooperation with the government to their constituents.
Education CS Ezekiel Machogu and ICT CS Eliud Owalo called for patience, assuring that the government is committed to ensuring all projects are executed.
“There’s no need to worry. Reviewing next year’s projects, they are included in the budget, and I assure Nyanza residents that with collaboration, we can facilitate significant development in the region,” stated CS Machogu.
Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, who also attended the burial, reassured that all presidential directives and promises would be fulfilled but urged Kenyans to understand the financial challenges the country faces.
