Ruto: “Friends of Kenya Paid for My Jet to the US, it Only Cost Kenya Sh10m”

President William Ruto addressed concerns on Thursday, May 30, regarding his US trip, which was rumored to have cost Ksh200 million.

During the National Prayer Breakfast in Nairobi, Ruto clarified that the private plane cost Kenyan taxpayers less than Ksh10 million.

“As a responsible steward, I cannot justify spending Ksh200 million. The trip cost the Republic of Kenya less than Ksh10 million,” he disclosed.

He mentioned that when informed the cheapest plane option was Ksh70 million, he instructed his team to book with the national carrier.

However, when some friends heard about his travel plans, they offered a more affordable plane.

“My friends asked about my budget. I said I wouldnโ€™t pay more than Ksh20 million. They offered the plane for Ksh10 million,” he shared.

Ruto stressed his commitment to implementing austerity measures.

He reiterated his dedication to leading the country towards fiscal responsibility by reducing his expenses.

“As I ask others to cut costs, I must lead by example,” he added.

Addressing the debate on his US trip expenses, he urged Kenyans to consider the benefits of the trip.

Ruto emphasized that Kenya will live within its means and aim to stop borrowing to fund the budget within the next three years.

He noted that he had directed National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung’u, Principal Secretary Chris Kiptoo, and others to ensure this goal is achieved.

“I am proud of the support from my economic team led by Professor Ndii and others. They are doing an excellent job,” he stated.
