Trump Invited to Testify in Stormy Daniels Grand Jury Case
Donald Trump has been invited to testify in front of a grand jury by New York prosecutors who have been investigating him for the past five years over alleged hush money payments made to Stormy Daniels, a former porn star.
The Manhattan district attorney’s office has been looking into whether the payments were made to keep Daniels from revealing details of an alleged affair with Trump in the run-up to the 2016 US presidential election.
The invitation to testify before a grand jury indicates that Trump could be facing charges in connection with the case.
A grand jury is a panel of citizens convened by a prosecutor to determine whether there is enough evidence to pursue charges in a case.
It is usually held in secret, and several former aides of Trump have reportedly testified in this case.
Daniels claims that she received $130,000 in exchange for her silence about the alleged affair with Trump. The former president denies having had sexual relations with Daniels.
If prosecutors proceed with charges, it would be the first criminal case ever brought against a former US president.

This is one of several cases in which Trump is currently being investigated, although he has not yet been charged in any of them and denies any wrongdoing.
The news comes as the 76-year-old prepares for another run for the White House in the 2024 presidential election.
It is worth noting that the invitation to testify before a grand jury does not necessarily mean that charges will be brought against Trump.
However, it does indicate that prosecutors believe they have enough evidence to pursue charges and that they are willing to take the case to a grand jury.
The Stormy Daniels case is just one of many legal challenges that Trump has faced since leaving office in January 2021.
He is also being investigated for possible tax fraud and other financial crimes related to his business dealings, as well as for his role in inciting the January 6th attack on the US Capitol.
Regardless of whether charges are brought against him in any of these cases, Trump’s legal troubles are likely to be a major issue if he decides to run for president again in 2024.
The investigations could damage his credibility with voters and make it more difficult for him to win the nomination or the election.
