Ruto Reveals Key Talks with Obama
President William Ruto met with retired US President Barack Obama on Thursday during his three-day State Visit to the United States.
Ruto noted that their discussions focused on democratic progress, climate change, and peace and security issues in Africa.
“I had a fruitful discussion with Former US President Barack Obama. We shared insights on democratic progress, climate change, and security challenges in Africa,” Ruto wrote on his X account.
The meeting took place at Blair House in Washington, D.C., just hours before President Ruto’s official reception at the White House.
Ruto mentioned that they also explored opportunities for Africa’s young and dynamic population in technology, innovation, and higher and technical education.
He highlighted their exchange of ideas on how Kenya and Africa could utilize US institutions and technological advancements to further their interests.
Obama expressed his pleasure at meeting President Ruto again, greeting him warmly.
“Habari?” Obama greeted Ruto.

“Mzuri sana,” Ruto responded, asking Obama how he had been since their last meeting.
“Everything is going well so far,” Obama replied, welcoming President Ruto to Washington, D.C.
Obama, the 44th President of the United States, has a Kenyan father.
In 2015, Obama became the first sitting US president to visit Kenya.
At that time, Ruto was serving as Deputy President under President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Obama’s most recent visit to Kenya was in July 2018 after he left office, paving the way for Donald Trump to take over the presidency.
On Thursday, Ruto received full military honors, including a 21 Gun Salute, during the State Arrival Ceremony at the White House, Washington D.C.
President Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto were welcomed at the ceremony by President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden.
