Cracking the Code: Inside KUCCPS’ Student Placement System

Agnes Wahome, the CEO of the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), elucidated the methodology employed by the agency in allocating students to various tertiary institutions during a Stakeholders Forum held on Tuesday for the official unveiling of the 2024 placement outcomes.

During her address, Wahome delineated three primary factors pivotal to the placement process, underscoring the agency’s adherence to the government’s Placement Policy and Processing Procedure.

Emphasizing further, the CEO underscored the significance of the applicant’s choices of colleges or universities and their academic qualifications in guiding the placement process.

Elaborating on the selection criteria, Wahome highlighted KUCCPS’s meticulous scrutiny of the institutions preferred by students and their eligibility for admission.

Courses in both universities and colleges were classified into clusters ranging from 1 to 23, based on specific subject combinations requisite for each program.

To streamline the application process, the portal automatically computed a student’s cluster points and promptly displayed them after each cluster grouping.

Moreover, KUCCPS factored in the approved capacities of the universities or colleges applied to by the students, strictly adhering to the stipulated thresholds.

Wahome underscored the application of affirmative action for gender, persons with disabilities, and marginalized regions as part of the placement considerations.

Highlighting the agency’s commitment to transparency and fairness, she affirmed the continuous development of robust policies and internal controls by the Board over the years to ensure an equitable and efficient placement process.
