35-Year-Old Man in Kirinyaga County Arrested for Killing Father with Hammer After Being Denied Food

A 35-year-old man from Kagumo, Kirinyaga County, is now in police custody after allegedly killing his father with a hammer.

Reports indicate that on Monday, May 20, the man left his home and went to his nearbyย parents’ย house. Upon arrival, he asked his father for food.

When his father denied the request, the son became enraged, hurried back to his house, and returned with a hammer.

He then ambushed his father, attacking him with a hammer and beating him to death, leaving the father in a pool of blood.

After the incident, the son went to the Kagumo police station and surrendered. He is currently being detained at the local station pending his court appearance in Kangema.

Theย fatherโ€™sย body has been taken to the local morgue for post-mortem examination and preservation before the burial.

As the suspect faces charges for the murder, the community is in shock, questioning why he would take such a violent action against his father.

Many Kenyans have condemned the act, expressing that the son overreacted over a meal. They also sympathized with the widow, who now endures two traumatic losses.

If found guilty, the suspect could face severe penalties, including life imprisonment as stipulated by the Penal Code.

The Penal Code states that a killing under provocation is not murder but manslaughter. Provocation includes insults or wrongful acts.

The Penal Code states: “When a person unlawfully kills another under circumstances which, but for the provisions of this section, would constitute murder, and does the act which causes death in the heat of passion caused by sudden provocation and before there is time for his passion to cool, is guilty of manslaughter only.”

This incident is not an isolated case. In March, a man in Meru County killed his father and stepmother before surrendering to the police.
