Former IEBC Commissioner Abdi Yakub Guliye Appointed to Nakuru County Investment Board
Professor Abdi Yakub Guliye was appointed to the Nakuru County Investment Board on Friday, May 17.
The former Independent and Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioner will join four others in advancing Governor Susan Kihika’s investment agenda.
The announcement of Guliye’s appointment was made through a gazette notice by Stephen Kuria, the County Executive Committee (CEC) member for Trade Cooperatives, Tourism, and Culture.
The other board members are Martin Kariuki, who will serve as chairperson, along with Peris Mbuthia, Jayen Dodhia, and Santosh Devaray, all experts in their respective fields.
The notice stated, “By Section 17 of the Nakuru County Trade Act, the aforementioned are gazetted as members of the Nakuru County Investment Board.”
However, the CEC did not specify the roles or tenure for Guliye’s new position. In April, the county announced the formation of the board to attract businesses to Nakuru.

The board is also expected to formulate development-friendly policies to enhance the country’s competitiveness.
Deputy Governor Erick Korir revealed that the investment board would include members from both the public and private sectors to promote business investments in the county.
This announcement followed the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) urging Nakuru County to implement policies fostering a favorable business environment.
Guliye’s appointment follows his retirement from the commission in January 2023, alongside former chairperson Wafula Chebukati and commissioner Boya Molu.
The remaining commissioners, Irene Masit, Francis Wanderi, Juliana Cherera, and Justus Nyan’aya, resigned in December 2022, months after the 2022 General Elections.
The commission currently lacks a chairperson and commissioners, with a selection panel in the process of being established.
